The Ed-Tech boom has been well documented by many researchers and publications. This month’s blog by Anushka Oza and Junofy Rozarina delves into various challenges faced by the industry including low course completion rates, and acquiring and onboarding new students to platforms. It goes on to suggest behaviourally informed solutions that can help mitigate these challenges.
These are summaries of some solutions mentioned in the article-
Increasing Course Completion Rate: To boost course completion rates, set learning goals, provide positive reinforcement, foster competition, and offer rewards at milestones. Using study plans and visual progress trackers can increase completion by up to 29%.
Encouraging Consistent Learning Engagement: To maintain engagement, use gamification (points, badges, leaderboards), storytelling, and interactive elements (quizzes, group discussions, live sessions). Daily interactive activities help sustain motivation and consistent learning.
Reducing Cognitive Load: To prevent cognitive overload, structure courses with manageable chunks, regular breaks, and spaced repetition. Use real-life examples, forums, practical activities, and ensure an intuitive, clean UI/UX design to enhance engagement and retention.
Build a Community: To build a community in online learning, include collaborative projects, group forums, and live sessions. Create buddy systems for peer learning and encourage daily interactions. This fosters engagement and makes learning more enjoyable and effective.
Instructor-Learner Relationship: To build strong instructor-student relationships, integrate personalized support and feedback, and offer live interaction sessions. This motivates students and increases course satisfaction, setting your platform apart from others.
Increasing Student Acquisition: To increase student acquisition, use behavioral science to tailor marketing strategies that resonate with potential learners. Highlight success stories and testimonials, leverage social proof, and simplify registration processes like one-click sign-ups. Personalize marketing content and improve UI design to attract and convert prospective students effectively.
